Dorothy Martin

Dorothy Martin, 87, of Kewaskum, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Kettle Moraine Gardens in Kewaskum.


She was born on June 17, 1921, in Tomah, the daughter of the late Louis and Clara (Eirschele) Thom. Dorothy had relatives living in Kewaskum and in 1939 she moved to Kewaskum where she was employed by the Republican House. While in Kewaskum she met William S. “Bill” Martin, and the couple was united in marriage on September 3, 1946, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tomah. At the time of Bill’s death on August 13, 2004, the couple had celebrated 57 years of marriage.


Dorothy was employed as a bookkeeper for 20 years with Lay Lumber Company and also worked for accountants in West Bend and Badger Packaging. Dorothy loved to sew and after retiring from the accounting business, she established a custom sewing service designing wedding and bridesmaid dresses. She made many clothes for herself and Bill, including wool coats and matching London Fog raincoats and hats.


Survivors include two sisters, Irene Maum of Tomah and Arlys Wesolowski of Cudahy, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis, Joe and Jack Thom and four sisters, Gertrude Eucher, Marian Tracy, Rita Pocius and Imelda Mehlius.


A Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy was held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2009, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church 331 Main Street in Kewaskum. Father Robert Berghammer officiated and burial was at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Tomah.


Relatives and friends called at the church on Friday from noon until the time of Mass.
