Audrey F. Richter

Audrey F. Richter, 89, of DeForest, formerly of Milwaukee and rural Adell, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Parkside Assisted Living in DeForest.


She was born on July 12, 1923, in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Roland and Helen (Bruck) Fritsche, and on May 21, 1949, she was united in marriage to John C. Richter at Zoar Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. John preceded Audrey in death on December 22, 2011.


Audrey and John were long-time, active members of Walther Memorial Lutheran Church in Milwaukee and of St. John Lutheran Church in Sherman Center. Audrey had most recently attended Burke Lutheran Church in Madison. She was a member of the Moraine Chorus in West Bend, the Lutheran A Cappella in Milwaukee and the Lutheran Radio Choir.


Music was a key part of Audrey’s life. She was an excellent pianist, had a beautiful voice often singing solos and was very involved in music at their churches. She sang in the church choirs from childhood into adulthood and was the church choir accompanist for many years. She was the children’s choir director at St. John, played the bells and volunteered in many ways at both St. John Lutheran School and Walther Memorial Lutheran School.


Audrey and John loved to travel, extensively traveling in the United States, Europe and Australia, and enjoyed elder hosteling. They loved God’s creation and enjoyed many walks in their woods.


Those Audrey leaves behind to cherish her memory include three daughters, Susan (Robert) Rittmann of Sun Prairie, Leah (Michael) Mueller of New Fane and Julie (Mike) Brown of Harshaw; five grandchildren, Eric (Dezra) Rittmann, Martin (Alaina) Rittmann, Sarah Scherr (fiancé Justin Siegel), Melynda (Mitch) Webster and Nichole Scherr (Jeremy Hein); seven great-grandchildren, Oliver, Natalie, Lily Grace and Cora Rose Rittmann, Molly Scherr, Beckett and Autumn Hein; a sister-in-law, Martha Eddy of Lannon, other relatives, friends, and her kitty, Lizzy.


In addition to her husband and parents, Audrey was preceded in death by a brother, Roland “Bud” Fritsche.


Funeral services for Audrey were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Churc in Sherman Center. Rev. Mark Eckert officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.


Relatives and friends called at the church on Thursday from noon until the time of services.


The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Audrey’s arrangements.


Audrey’s family extended their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Parkside Assisted Living and to Agrace Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Audrey.
