Welcome to the memorial page for

David A. Oppermann

March 30, 1944 ~ October 6, 2015 (age 71) 71 Years Old

David A. Oppermann, 71, of West Bend, entered eternal life on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk with his wife at his side.

Dave was born March 30, 1944, the son of the late Armin and Virginia (nee Staege) Oppermann.  On June 10, 1967 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Lynn at Trinity Lutheran Church, West Bend.

Dave graduated from Kewaskum High School in 1962, where he excelled in academics, basketball and baseball.  After attending the University of Oshkosh, Dave began employment at the West Bend Company in 1967.  During his 38 years at the West Bend Company, he worked in the Housewares Sales Division, Human Resources and later held the position of Manager of Employment and Salary Administration.  He retired in July of 2000 where he enjoyed retirement, vacationing to various locations with his wife Bonnie, as well as spending time with his family at their cabin in Rhinelander.

Dave had a love for people and conversation.  His easy going and charismatic personality drew people to him.  He was an optimist and took pride in a job well-done.  He appreciated the simple things in life; a cup of coffee while reading the newspaper, country music, boat rides on the lake, or having an old fashioned on the deck while watching the sunset. Dave was an avid fisherman, hunter, nature lover and an all- around outdoorsman.  He was an eloquent writer and speaker.  Dave enjoyed talking politics and worldly events.  Dave was also a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend.

His greatest joys came from spending time with four children and ten grandchildren as well as hunting, fishing and playing a competitive game of cards or scrabble.  Dave taught his children many great life lessons, including to “always give 110%.” He was a loyal and compassionate father and partner, a devoted provider, respected businessman, a man of great character, and often the life of the party.

Those Dave leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 48 years, Bonnie; four children, Greg (Tammy) Oppermann of Appleton and children, McKenzie, Alexa, Ava and A.J.; Brad (Kelly) Oppermann of West Bend and children Tom and Will; Kristin (Andrew) Ziegler of Appleton and children Audrey and Hailey; and Ross Oppermann of Green Bay and children Cameran and Caylee; a sister, Debra (Joe) Backhaus; a sister-in-law, Cheri (Otto) Ramthun, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many wonderful friends.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law Willard and Marge Lynn.

Funeral Services for Dave will be held at noon on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend, with Rev. David Schoob officiating.

The Opperman family will greet relatives and friends at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church or Kathy Hospice are appreciated.

The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum has been entrusted with Dave’s arrangements.  Additional information and online guestbook may be found at www.millermartinfh.com.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Director of Kathy Hospice (Pat) and nursing staff as well as Froedtert nurses Roy, Josh, Carla and Kimberly for their wonderful care of Dave.
