David L. Preston

November 18, 1933 ~ February 5, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

David L. Preston, 83, found peace on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at the Samaritan Health Center, West Bend.

He was born on November 18, 1933 to the late Walter and Gladys (nee Leach) Preston in Milwaukee. He graduated from Boy’s Tech high school in Milwaukee. Right after high school he went to work at the telephone company. On August 20, 1980, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Gerich at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Richfield. David retired from the phone company as a testing technician in 1990. In retirement, he drove bus for Johnson bus for 10 years and was a school crossing guard for 3 years.

He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity since 1963. He was a member of Myron Reed Lodge No. 297 and a Past Master of that Lodge.  He also became a member of Hartford Lodge No. 120 and served that Lodge as it’s Master for three years.  He was an active member of the York Rite as well.  He was a member and Past High Priest of Calumet Chapter No. 73, Royal Arch Masons; a member and Past Illustrious Master of Kilbourn Council No. 9, Royal and Select Masters and a member of several Commanderies of Knights Templar.  He was Knighted in Ivanhoe Commandery No. 24 and served as the Commander 1993 – 1994.  He was a plural member of Galilee Commandery No. 38 and served as the Commander 1996 – 1997 and a member of Wisconsin Commandery No. 1.  He was inducted into Wisconsin Priory No. 16, Knights of the York Cross of Honor in 1999.

David loved model trains and arts and crafts. He enjoyed doing puzzles and he built many decks for people. David will be missed by all who knew him.

Those David leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Kathleen Preston; two children, Sharmay Rose (Jack) Luedtke and Sharon (Michael) Johnson; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Kay Preston; and dear friends, Karen and Vern Schmeider and their daughter Katlin.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Dean Thomas Preston; his first wife, Sharleen Cawood.

A memorial service in remembrance of David will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, 323 S. 5th Ave., West Bend.

The family will greet relatives and friend at the church Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
