Walter "Wally" Schwichtenberg Obituary

Walter “Wally” Schwichtenberg, age 95 years, of Lomira was called home to be with the Lord on September 24, 2021 at Hope Health and Rehab in Lomira.

Wally was born on May 23, 1926 in Dortmund, Germany to Adolf and Mathilde Schwichtenberg  (Scheer).  He came to the United States with his family when he was six months old.  He was united in marriage to Eloise Klueger on May 20, 1950.

Wally attended West Bend High School.  He served in the United States Army Air Corps and was stationed in Africa during WWII.  Wally owned and operated Wally’s Service in Allenton, a service station, auto repair, and towing business.  After selling Wally’s Service, he went to work for California Canners and Growers of Lomira, and advanced to be the maintenance superintendent.  After that, he became the operations manager for a vegetable canning factory in Ackley, Iowa.

Wally enjoyed visiting every weekend with the many fellow members at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lomira.  He gave his God given talents to leadership and service over the years to the Church.

In his retirement, he traveled with his wife.  They also enjoyed catching up semi-annually in Green Lake with friends and family.  Wally could fix anything, and kept active around home by working on the lawn, gardening, and performing utility maintenance and upkeep. In fact, he was still mowing his own lawn until age 91.  Wally seldom missed watching the Packers, Badgers, Bucks, and Brewers on television.

Those Wally leaves behind to cherish his memory include his three children, Sharon Schwichtenberg, Gary (Joni) Schwichtenberg, and Ellen (Steve) Elmore; four grandchildren, Kelsey (Adam) Croft, Geoffrey (Emily) Schwichtenberg, Kyle Elmore, and Cael Elmore; brother-in-law, Harvey Heup; and sister-in-law, Tess Klueger.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise; four brothers, four sisters, numerous brothers-in-law, numerous sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church (558 S Water St. – Lomira, WI  53048) with Pastor Matthew Kiecker officiating.  The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday at Church from 12:00 Noon until the time of service.  Inurnment will be at the church cemetery following the service.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lomira for the Building Fund.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Agnes Hospital, Hope Health and Rehab, and Agnesian Hospice for their care and compassion.
