Leonard E. Vander Grinten Jr., 74, of the town of Lomira, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac.
He was born on March 21, 1936, in Milladore, the son of the late Leonard and Veronica (Hardina) Vander Grinten, and on April 8, 1961, he was united in marriage to Barbara Husslein in Milwaukee.
Leonard served his country in the Army National Guard. He was a member of Bintzler-Waehler American Legion Post 347 Lomira, American Trapshooting Association, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lomira, a former member of the Mayville, Lomira and Waukesha Gun Clubs and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. Leonard enjoyed hunting, trapshooting and playing pinochle.
Those Leonard leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara; three children, Allan (Paula) Vander Grinten of Green Bay, Robert (Beth) Vander Grinten of Deerfield and Nancy Houfek (special friend, Rick Roskom) of Appleton; three brothers, David Vander Grinten of Hartford, Edward Vander Grinten of Wauwatosa and Peter (Mary Jo) Vander Grinten of Saukville; six grandsons, Garrett, Benjamin, Nicholas, Samuel, Patrick and Peter, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by a son, Patrick and a sister, Anne Liederbach.
Funeral services for Leonard were held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at the Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira. Military funeral honors performed by members of the Bintzler-Waehler American Legion Post 347 Lomira and the Wisconsin Army National Guard followed the service. Cremation took place.
Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services.
