Janet L. Hubbell

Janet L. Hubbell, (nee Guiles), age 76, of Kewaskum, passed away Wednesday June 11, 2014 at The Kathy Hospice in the Town of Polk.

She was born in Superior on October 15, 1937 to the late Roger and Margaret (nee Washburn) Guiles. At a young age Jan moved to Platteville with her family. She graduated from Platteville High School and then attended the University of Wisconsin earning a Bachelors degree in American Institutions, with minors in English and History. Jan then went to Kent State University earning a Masters degree in Guidance Counseling.

On June 16, 1962 Jan was united in marriage to John Hubbell at Congregational Church in Oshkosh. They made their home in Kewaskum in 1971. Jan taught Psychology and Sociology in West Bend for a year and then from 1973 until her retirement in 2006 she worked as a guidance counselor for West Bend West High School.

Jan was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum. She was a board member or chaired committees for Original Suicide and Crisis Intervention, K - 12 Guidance, Guidance Department, Board of Visitors, Task force for UWWC expansion, Curriculum Council, 37 years on Kettle Moraine YMCA Board of Directors, and United Church of Christ Board. She earned the 2004 Washington County Educator of the year award from the University of Wisconsin Washington County. Jan enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, John; two sons, Stephen Hubbell of Fond du Lac, and Craig (Audra) Hubbell of Madison; a brother, Jon Guiles of Oshkosh; sister-in-law, Suzanne Washburn of Denver, CO; brother-in-law, Robert (Joann) Hubbell of Canyon City, CO; her cat "Jacque"; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services in remembrance of Jan will be held on Saturday, June 21st at 4:00 pm at Peace United Church of Christ (343 First Street) Kewaskum, with Rev. Eric Kirkegaard officiating. Visitation will be at the church Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of service. Cremation will follow at Myrhum - Patten Funeral & Cremation Service and burial of Jan's cremains will follow in Peace Church Cemetery.

Memorials to Peace U.C.C., Kettle Moraine YMCA, or UWWC Scholarship Fund are appreciated by the family.
