Dorothy R. Berger Obituary

Dorothy Ruth Berger (nee Kragel), age 95, of rural Brownsville was called home to be with the Lord on December 10, 2021 at St. Agnes Hospital. Dorothy was born on March 2, 1926 at her grandfather’s farm on a stormy snowy night in Town of Oakfield to the late Louis and Selma (nee Wild) Kragel.  She was united in marriage to Norbert Berger on November 13, 1943.  Together they owned and operated a dairy and crop farm for 40 years. Dorothy resided on the farm for 78 years.  Dorothy also worked at the National Rivet Company during WWII.  She also worked seasonally at the Oakfield Canning Company.

She loved gardening and working the land.  She said she loved to get dirt under her fingernails.  She was a caring and compassionate person who loved everyone she met. If you came to visit, you could not leave without a meal or a sweet treat. If you were not hungry, you took it home for later. She loved to send cards for whatever the occasion.  She never forgot a birthday. She would deer hunt. She would shoot the first deer she saw and back to get lunch ready for the rest of the hunting group. She loved to fish and eat fish.  She also liked to watch the Green Bay Packers even though she did not understand the game.  She would say if she watches the game, the Packers will win.  Dorothy also felt the need to donate to Cancer funds, BoysTown, St. Jude’s, Disable Vets, and the VFW. She loved her family and loved life. She wanted to live and fought up to her last breath.

Those Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory include her Son Edward (Sandy) Berger of Oakfield, two grandchildren Renee (Steve) Schuster of Brownsville, and Mark (Tammy) Berger of Oakfield. They all live on four corners of her properties.  Also, her god-son David Wild. Many nieces and nephews.  Special friends Shirley Ferguson and Roy and Sherry Lenhardt. Many beloved friends and neighbors. Her dog “Bandit”.  Not to forget any stray cat that showed would be fed.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her son Donald Berger.  Also, her five siblings, Arthur, Alice, Jeanette Seering, Louis, and Robert Kragel.  Sister in-law Marion Kragel and brother in-law William Seering.

There was never a job too large or too small that she would not tackle. Dorothy was a strong, determined, and fiercely independent woman.  She lived a simple life. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.  Until we meet again.
