Dean Oldson Obituary

Dean Allen Oldson, age 84 years, of Kewaskum, was called home to be with the Lord on January 8, 2022.

Dean was born on March 27, 1937 in Woodstock, IL (which explains his lifelong allegiance to the Cubs) to Richard & Marian Oldson (Diamond).

He was united in marriage with Frances Zuidersma on June 14, 1958.

Dean was truly a man of God.  He attended Milwaukee Bible College/Grace Bible College in the late 50's and early 60's and became a Pastor and served at multiple churches in Illinois, New Jersey and South Dakota until the early 70's.  At that time, he attended Sioux Falls College (SD) to get his degree in Elementary Education.  He began teaching 4th and 5th Grades at Jackson Elementary in 1974, and ended his career teaching at Barton Elementary School in 1997.

Dean loved teaching, not just as a beloved elementary school teacher, but he also continued to lead Bible Study groups and fill in as Pastor after his retirement.  He loved to travel the country, particularly going to Arizona to follow his Cubbies in Spring Training in early retirement (and was fortunate to have seen the miracle of the Cubs finally winning a World Series in 2016), and also taking their 5th wheel trailer out to the Black Hills of South Dakota to stay and visit friends and help in the church there.

Dean also loved gardening with his daughter Ruth and son Paul on their 5 acre lot in the town of Kewaskum, in addition to helping them care for their many pets and chickens over the years.  He had an awesome "Dad" sense of humor – his children joked on occasion that he never got beyond teaching 4th or 5th grade as that was the highest level that his sense of humor attained.

Those Dean leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife Frances, sons David (Mary) Oldson and Paul Oldson, granddaughter Erin Oldson, grandson Noah Oldson and sister Lois Baker (Floyd Jr. ).  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his daughter Ruth Oldson, brother Donald Oldson, and sister Carol Annen (Mike).

A Combined Memorial Service for Frances and Dean will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Kettle Moraine Bible Church (500 Lenora Drive, West Bend, WI 53090).  A lunch reception will follow the service.
