Curtis Bastian Obituary

Curtis G. Bastian, 88, lifelong resident of West Bend, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at The Samaritan. He was born on April 23, 1929 in West Bend, the son of the late Harvey and Erna Bastian (nee Sauer). Curtis married his first wife, Lois Bolle in July of 1949 and she passed away in May of 1989. In July of 1991, he married his second wife, Janet Dobberpuhl at St. John’s Lutheran Church.  Curtis worked at the former West Bend Company for 44 ½ years, was a member of the 25 Year Club, and retired in 1994. He was a former member of the “We Love to Dance” Club. Curtis liked raising geraniums and begonias, fishing, deer hunting, and spending time at East Shore Resort on Rolling Stone Lake. He enjoyed traveling, going on trips to Europe, Hawaii, and Alaska.

Those Curtis leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Janet; son, Ronald (Judy) Bastian of West Bend; step-children, Joann (Dennis) Sabel of Fond du Lac, Tommy (Jeanne) Griep of Pearson, and Norman (Coralli) Griep of Watertown; grandchild, Bradley (Amy) Bastian; step-grandchildren, Julie (Jeffrey) Roehrig, Brian (Brandy) Sabel, Anthony (Natasha) Griep, and Jessica (Gary) Boylen; great-grandchildren, Brianna and Conner Bastian; step-great-grandchildren, Anthony Jr., Caitlin, Andrew and Alex Griep, Emily and Megan Roehrig, Riley and Lily Sabel, and Nick (Toya) and Kayla Sabel; two step-great-great-granddaughters, Willow and Elena Griep; sisters, Marilyn Wiesner of Campbellsport and Donna Dahlinger of Campbellsport; brother, Kenneth (Bernice) Bastian of West Bend; brother-in-law, Ronald Dobberpuhl of Horicon; and god children, Jeff Bastian, Renee Onstad, and Colleen Guell. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and his first wife, Curtis was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Lois and her husband, Keith Schoenike; brother, Harvey Jr. Bastian; sister, Gloria Monday; brothers-in-law, Marvin Wiesner, Edward Dahlinger, and Donald Monday; and sisters-in-law, Suzanne Bastian and Ann Dobberpuhl.

A funeral service in remembrance of Curtis will be held on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 809 S. 6th Avenue West Bend, WI  53095, with Rev. Jeff Dorth officiating. Curtis’ family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Burial will take place at Washington County Memorial Park at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Kidney Foundation or St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
