Wilmer E. “Bill” Bunkelmann, age 99 years and 11 months of West Bend was called home to be with the Lord on October 8, 2025, at Kathy Hospice in West Bend.
Bill was born on November 13, 1925, in Kewaskum to William and Malinda Bunkelmann (Klumb). He was united in marriage to Doris M. Stahl on April 3, 1948, at Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum.
Bill graduated from Kewaskum High School. He served in the United States Army 84th Division from April 1944 to March 1946. He participated in the following WWII battles: Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland Offensive, and Central Europe Campaign. Bill was wounded in action in Germany, April 1945. Honored with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Bill worked at RegalWare for 43 years, retiring in May 1990. He also drove school bus for Kewaskum Schools for a number of years, as well as working at the Kewaskum Cinema as the projectionist.
He loved traveling the country with Doris. They experienced many trips together and their favorite place to visit was Florida. They became snowbirds, traveling to Florida every January and returning in May. His family always enjoyed visiting them there as well!
Bill enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities and sports and was an avid Brewers fan.
Above all else, he had so much love for his Savior and his family.
Bill is survived by his three loving children, Chuck (Cindy) Bunkelmann, Kathy (Paul) Redig, and Julie (Kieth) Kriewaldt. He is further survived by 7 grandchildren, Matthew (Kristin) Bunkelmann, Sarah Bunkelmann, Rachel (Glen) Deutschendorf, Alison Redig, David (Alissandra) Kriewaldt, Laura (Dan) Stinski, and Elizabeth (Haiden) Imholte. He was so loved by his 12 great-grandchildren, Madeline, Logan, Ethan, Grace, Carter, Hannah, Gabriella, Emery, Derek, Evelyn, Emmett, and Sebastian. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Smith and brother, Richard Bunkelmann, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents, William and Malinda Bunkelmann; parents-in-law, Raymond and Marie Stahl; siblings, Frances (Oliver) Diener, Byron (Lois) Bunkelmann, and Harold (Ruth) Bunkelmann; brothers-in-law, Roger (Alice) Stahl and Les Smith; and sister-in-law, Charlene Bunkelmann.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 777 S Indiana Avenue, West Bend, WI 53095. Burial will be at Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday at church from 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.
