William "Bill" Lee Koch, age 85, surrounded by his family, passed away on May 29, 2025, at Froedtert Hospital in West Bend, Wisconsin. Born on May 22, 1940, in Hartford, Wisconsin, he lived a full and vibrant life.
Bill earned his teaching license from Dodge County Teachers College but soon discovered his true calling as a natural-born salesman. His professional journey included metal fabrication sales with Super Steel, Vice President of Sales at Metalcraft of Mayville, and later, he became co-owner of Jor-Mac in Grafton. In addition to his work in sales, Bill was also a licensed real estate broker.
On May 6, 1961, Bill wed Bette (Dornfeldt) Koch. Their marriage spanned more than six decades as together they raised two children: daughter Kathryn Koch Galezio and son Daniel J. Koch. Bill took great pride in his family and found joy in watching it grow to include grandsons Logan (Bethany) Galezio and Keaton Galezio, as well as great-granddaughter Spencer.
Bill served as Captain with the Mayville Fire Department and EMS and held the role of city civil defense director. He facilitated a support group for individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis and was also an active member of the Masons West Bend Lodge No. 138.
Bill’s life was enriched by many passions. He was an avid golfer who relished time spent on the course with friends and family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling throughout our country’s scenic landscapes, and he served on the boards of both the Adaptive Sportsmen Club and the Great Lakes Fishing Club. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan who rarely missed a game. Bill cherished time spent near the water at their previous home on Beaver Dam Lake and at the family cottage in Neshkoro—places that became gathering spots for laughter-filled weekends and lasting memories.
Known for his outgoing personality and unwavering commitment to causes close to his heart, Bill had a gift for connecting with people. Those who knew him will fondly remember his animated tales about the many famous people he encountered during his travels. He brought energy and enthusiasm to everything he did—from business negotiations to community involvement—and never hesitated to stand up for what he believed in. One of his most endearing habits was collecting “stuffies” during Bingo games so he could give them to his beloved great-granddaughter.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Louise Koch; brother John Koch (1959); and parents-in-law Vilas and Marcella Dornfeldt. Besides his immediate family, he is lovingly remembered by his brother-in-law Robert Dornfeldt as well as extended family members and countless special friends whose lives were touched by his warmth and humor.
A remembrance gathering will be planned for a future date to celebrate Bill’s life.
In honor of Bill’s memory, memorials may be directed to the Mayville Fire Department or the West Bend Masons.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who carry forward his legacy.
