Thomas G. Gruenberger “Spike”, (44), of Lomira passed on October 17, 2026, peacefully at his home with family by his side after a lengthy and hard fought battle with colon cancer.
Thomas was born on December 7, 1981, in Fond du Lac, the son of Mark and Agnes Gruenberger. He graduated from Lomira High School in 2000 and during his time at Lomira High School he participated in apprentice program through Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac. After high school he attended Moraine Park Technical College obtaining an associate’s degree as a machinist. He met Michelle Zagl and a few years later the couple got married on June 19, 2010 on the family farm. Spike worked full time as machinist at Marchant & Schmidt in Fond du Lac but his passion and other full-time job was on the family cattle farm. His other greatest joy was his children, Alexander Mark and Emily Lynn. A lifelong farmer, Spike spent his entire life tending the land, raising the crops and livestock, and caring for The Gruenberger family farm that meant everything to him.
Spike is survived by his love of his life, Michelle; his children, Alex and Em. He also survived by his parents, Mark and Agnes Gruenberger, and his siblings, Chuck (Leslie) Gruenberger, Ann Buck, Chris (Jim) Moldenhauer. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
Spike is preceded in death by both grandparents, and his Uncle Larry.
The family would like to thank you to Haley Birschbach, SSM Cancer Center, and SSM Hospice at Home, for all the gracious care of Tom.
