Ronald “Ron” Komas, born August 12, 1943, passed away peacefully at Kathy Hospice on May 18, 2026. He lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, commitment and a deep love for his family and community.
He is survived by his children, Greg (Tammy) Komas, Kristi Quirk, and Bryan (Erin) Komas; grandchildren, Ali, Brandt and Gabe Komas, Kaity (Michael) Purkey and Ava, Chloe & Donovan Quirk; great grandchild, Aurora Purkey; special friend, Pauli Nikolay; and sister, Sue (Dennis) Ryan.
Preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Komas; parents, John & Bernadine Komas; brother, Jack Komas; and grandchild, Brianna Komas.
Ron was deeply loved by family and friends who understood the heart beneath his big personality. He cared deeply for the people in his life and created countless memories that will be cherished forever.
One of his greatest joys was spending time at Madeline Island with family & friends. Hiking, swimming, enjoying the sunset, rock hunting, enjoying a Bloody Mary at Tom’s Burned Down Café, bird watching, jumping in the leaves with his grandkids and “taking it easy” was his happy place and gave everyone wonderful, forever memories.
On June 30, 1965, Ron married Kathy and they shared 37 years together living in Kentucky, Texas, and Wisconsin.
When Kathy died at Milwaukee Hospice from breast, bone, and brain cancer at 56 years old; Ron turned his pain into purpose and dedicated all his time and energy to creating the first residential hospice in Washington County, the Kathy Hospice.
We are deeply grateful that Dad was able to spend his final days in the very hospice he created in Mom’s honor. What he built out of love and compassion for others became a place of peace and comfort for him as well. It brings us profound comfort knowing he was surrounded by the same care, warmth, and humanity that he worked so hard to provide for countless families. His legacy lives on in all the lives the hospice continues to touch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 1025 S. 7th Ave in West Bend, with a visitation from 11:00 a.m.until 12:45p.m. Burial will follow at Washington County Memorial Park, 3358 Paradise Drive in West Bend.
