Obituary

Norman H. “Norm” Heberer, 87, of Crandon, formerly of Kewaskum, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, at Aspirus Hospice House in Wausau.

Norm was born on May 16, 1939, in the town of Auburn, the son of the late John Sr. and Mildred (nee Krueger) Heberer. On May 5, 1962, he married Maureen Borchert at Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum. Norm proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 2 years as an airplane mechanic. Following his service, Norm was employed by Lee Jaeger Road Construction. He then worked for Shefond Oil in Waucousta as a fuel oil driver for 13 years. He also enjoyed cash cropping on his farm. He and his two brothers founded Heberer Brothers Construction in Kewaskum, where he worked until his retirement in 1995.

He had a deep love for games, cribbage, sheepshead, and any moment that came with a good joke. He rarely missed his kids’ sporting events and was happiest outdoors. Fishing, hunting, and time spent on his tractor were some of his greatest joys. He loved to travel, and he and Maureen spent their winters first in Arizona and later in Florida. Golfing a couple of times a week became part of his rhythm, and he was always ready to lend a hand as the neighborhood handyman.

Norm was a charter member of the New Fane Sportsman’s Club and the New Fane Kettle Riders Snowmobile Club. He belonged to Post 44 of the American Legion in Wabeno and was a member of the Kewaskum Lions Club. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane and an associate member of Good Shepherd Church in Crandon. He was also part of the Lake Lucerne Association and the Nicolet Country Club.

His grandchildren chose single words to describe the man they knew as Grandpa, each one capturing a piece of him that lives on in them: Proud, Feisty, Brilliant, Charismatic, Cheerful, Legendary, Humble, Wise, and Role-Model.

Those Norm leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Maureen; four children, Randy (Janet) Heberer, Tim (Karen) Heberer, Kris (Don) Ballard, and Mike (Jenny) Heberer; nine grandchildren, Bekki (Casey) Scheel, Erika (Caleb) Olla, Jerod (Leah) Heberer, Mitch (Angie) Heberer, Matt (Michelle) Ballard, Joe (Paige) Ballard, Kelsey (Jake) Wade, Alyssa Heberer, and Austin Heberer; 17 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Myron Heberer, Bill (Judy) Heberer, Russell (LuAnn) Heberer, and Terry (Sue) Heberer; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Norm was preceded in death by three brothers, Roger (Audrey) Heberer, John Jr. (Carol) Heberer, and Steven Heberer; and his parents-in-law, Milton and Linda Borchert.

VISITATION: Norm’s family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church New Fane (N683 County Road S, Kewaskum).

SERVICE: A Funeral Service in remembrance of Norm will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1st at St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane with Rev. Mark Eckert officiating. A Graveside Service with military honors will be at the church cemetery following the service.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to Pastor Jamie Bauknecht of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Crandon, Pastor Mark Eckert of St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane, and Aspirus Hospital and Hospice Team.
