Michael A.
Buerger
June 9, 1946 – April 10, 2026
St. Mary's Catholic Church
1:00 - 2:00 pm (Central time)
Michael Andrew Buerger, 79, of Lomira, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, and joined Heaven's Garden on Friday, April 10, 2026.
Mike was born on June 9, 1946 to the late Silverius “Si” and Olive (Wondra) Buerger.
He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic grade school in Lomira and attended Lomira High School.
On July 8, 1967 he married Gladys (Beck) Buerger at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Ashford, and together they raised five children.
Mike farmed with his brother Dean for more than 35 years, as they took over the Buerger Family Farm from their dad. Mike enjoyed milking cows and said that was his time during the day to relax and reflect. The barn was always filled with polka music playing, as he said the cows milk better if you have the radio on. Only the cows know the truth.
After dairy farming, Mike lived an ambitious life and was happiest being outside and working on whatever job needed to be done. If it meant he got some dirt and grease on his hands, he believed that was "a good thing."
He spent countless hours working in the vegetable garden, and loved talking to and showing his grandson which green things were weeds and "digging them up."
Mike enjoyed helping others and expected nothing in return, because "that's what you do." He had a way of appreciating the small things, and found peace and contentment in life with his belief in "that's the way it is."
Wherever Mike was, he could be heard humming, singing, whistling, or talking to himself. His voice will be missed by all who knew him.
Those Mike leaves behind to cherish his memory include his four children, Michelle Buerger, Jason Buerger, JoEllen (Paul) Kolbe, Alaine (Patrick) Fliss; his grandchildren, Catherine Thomas, JoElaine Kolbe, Blaise Kolbe, Eloisia Kolbe.
He is further survived by brother and sisters, Mary Ann Betz, LuEllen Reimer, Donna Herman, Dean (Stephanie) Buerger; and sisters-in-law, Jean Buerger, Joan Buerger, Patricia Stucke, Jeanette (Stanley) Joas.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Gladys Buerger; son, Blaine Buerger; three brothers, Conrad Buerger, Joseph Buerger, William Buerger.
He is further preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Aloysius and Erna (Karstaedt) Beck; brothers-in-law, Francis Herman, Walter Betz, Kenneth Reimer, Vincent Beck, Ralph Stucke, Walter Beck, Jerome Beck, Owen Beck; sisters-in-law, Audrey Buerger, Marguerite Beck, Ruth Beck, Lillian Beck, Margie Beck; and two nieces, Margaret Buerger and Christine Sitter.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Michael will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 699 Milwaukee Street, Lomira. Rosary will begin at 12:30. Burial to follow Mass. After burial, the family will visit with relatives and friends while sharing food and memories of Michael in the St. Mary’s School Hall.
