Mark A. Gonia

Mark A. Gonia, 63, of West Bend, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Zilber Hospice in Wauwatosa, with his wife at his side.

Born on July 14, 1962, in the heartlands of Nebraska, Mark Gonia was the beloved son of Robert Sr. and Diane (née Girardot). With his father serving in the Air Force, Mark's childhood was a patchwork of places and experiences, though he laid down roots in Arkansas before eventually settling in Wisconsin.

On the eve of his 28th birthday—July 13, 1990—Mark found his lifelong partner in Sheryl Gardipee, exchanging vows in Milwaukee. A machinist by trade, he poured skill and dedication into every role, most recently at Panda Industries.

But Mark was truly at home under open skies. Whether casting a line in a quiet lake, tracking deer through autumn woods, coaxing blooms from the soil, or crafting delicious meals, he thrived in nature’s embrace. More than anything, he lived to make others smile. His humor was a constant companion, and laughter followed him wherever he went. Family meant everything, and his greatest joy was simply being with those he loved—cracking jokes, sharing stories, and savoring the moment.

Those Mark leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Sheryl; three children, Mark Jr. (Samantha) Gonia, Ashley Gonia, and Rachael (Ross) Cain; two grandchildren, Landon Gonia and Allister Cain; his siblings, Robert Jr. (Candice) Gonia, Phillip (Dennie) Gonia, and Verona (Richard) Peak; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael (Heidi) Gardipee and Shannon (Nick) Held; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Camardo and Loretta Gonia.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025, from Noon to 5:00 p.m. at Yahr Park (7999 Orchard Valley Road, West Bend, WI 53090). Remember to register your license plate at least a WEEK prior to attending to avoid paying park fees and fines.
