Obituary

Marilyn Kay Stier, 80, of West Bend, passed away on March 27, 2026, at Kathy Hospice in West Bend.

Marilyn was born on June 15, 1945, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to Frederick “Fritz” and Helen (née Schnuelle) Hagenow. She grew up in Kiel, Wisconsin and graduated from Kiel High School in 1963. After high school, she worked at Lake to Lake Cheese, where she met her future husband, Paul Stier. The couple was united in marriage on May 8, 1971.

In 1974, Marilyn and Paul moved to West Bend, where they built their life together and raised their three children. She held various positions over the years, including at West Bend Mutual, Bieri’s Cheese, and Cedar Campuses, but her most cherished role was that of a stay-at-home mom. In 2000, she officially retired to embrace her favorite role of full-time grandmother.

Marilyn found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren. She greeted each new grandchild with unmatched excitement and played a pivotal role in their lives, attending performances and sporting events, and sharing her love of baking. She instilled in them a lasting sense of positivity and love that will carry on for generations.

Marilyn’s selfless and caring spirit was evident in the way she always put others before herself. She was an avid baker and enjoyed crocheting afghans and scarves for family and friends. She cherished her time with the Sonshine Gals at church and loved playing sheepshead with her dear card club of more than 45 years. Marilyn will be remembered for her smile, optimism and her zest for life. She was a loving friend to all and famous for her quality, heartfelt hugs. Marilyn never met a stranger, only friends she hadn’t made yet.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Paul; her children, Scott (Judy) Stier, Gina (Jason) Bierman, and Holly (Andy) Sherman; and her grandchildren, Julia (Conner Boldt) Stier, Joey Stier, Logan Bierman, Ellee Bierman, Ava Sherman, Lexi Sherman, and Lyla Sherman. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick “Fritz” and Helen Hagenow, and her sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie (Eugene) Rausch.
