Obituary

Marilyn Luise (Moeller) Holmquist, 93, of West Bend, WI was called home to be with the Lord on the morning of February 12, 2026.

A native of West Bend, Marilyn was born on October 4, 1932, to Arnold and Verna (Dobbratz) Moeller. She attended grade school and high school in West Bend, graduating in 1950. She studied for two years at Valparaiso University before transferring to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she graduated in 1954 with a degree in Elementary Education.

After graduation Marilyn taught school in Appleton, WI, where she met her husband, William “Bill” Holmquist on a blind date. They were married on April 7, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in West Bend and were blessed with 58 years of a wonderful marriage.

An active member of St John’s, Marilyn served in many positions with the Ladies Guild, including as president. She also served on numerous church boards, taught Sunday School and Bible studies, served as a substitute teacher at St. John’s school and she was an original Board member in the establishment of the St. John’s West Bend Foundation.

Marilyn was dedicated to her community and served on the boards of the Schloemer Foundation and West Bend COLUMNS, of which she was a founder. Just last year at 92, she was awarded emeritus status by the current board. She also was active with Valpo Guild and a member of the Concordia-Wisconsin Foundation Board.

A devoted grandmother, Marilyn relished the opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren. She was an enthusiastic traveler and loved to organize trips around the globe for family and friends. She was also a keen bridge player and a member of several bridge clubs.

Marilyn is survived by her children: Ann (Douglas) West of Brookfield, WI, John (Sue) Holmquist of Los Alamitos, CA, and Susan (Scott) Alexander of Oro Valley, AZ; her grandchildren: Christopher (Linda) West, Matthew West, Peter (Rachel) West, Kelly (Eric) Lerch, Michael (Claudia) Holmquist, Caroline (Nick) Vilter, David (Natalie) Alexander, and Kathryn (Quinn) Kopczynski; and her great-grandchildren: Samuel, Isaac, Sydney, John, Madison, and Mark. She is further survived by her brother, William (Sandi) Moeller of Scottsdale, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Holmquist; her brother, John Moeller; her brother-in-law, Curtis Holmquist; and her sisters-in-law, Ann Moeller, Joanne Moeller, and Lorraine Holmquist.

Funeral services in remembrance of Marilyn will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church (809 S 6th Ave) West Bend with burial to follow at Washington County Memorial Park.
