Leon E. Brasch, age 96, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025 at The Aspen of West Bend. He was born on March 15, 1929 to the late Carl and Amber (Potratz) Brasch.
Leon met his high school sweetheart, Joan Bratz, in Weyauwega and they wed on April 27, 1951 beginning a love story that would span 74 years.
A proud Marine, Leon served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. His love for America and pride in his service culminated in his participation in an Honor Flight in 2017.
For 60 years, Leon and Joan worked side by side as proud owners of the Piggly Wiggly in Lomira. Leon loved every aspect of running the store. The employees were like family and he knew his customers by name. He loved and appreciated all of them.
Leon and Joan opened their home to exchange visitors from around the world, hosting Frank from Germany, Deborah from New Zealand and Awe from Thailand. More than guests, they became family and led to many international trips visiting them and seeing other parts of the world.
A devoted member of the Methodist Church in Lomira, Leon lived his faith through action. He served his community as a firefighter and was an active member of the Lions Club and American Legion.
Joan and Leon loved to travel and play cards with friends. Whether exploring new places or enjoying time at home, Leon’s greatest joy was always the people around him. He was the grandfather who never missed a sporting event, the trickster who could make anyone laugh, and the steady presence his family could always count on.
Leon is survived by his beloved wife Joan; his children Gregory (Lavonne) Brasch and Phyllis (David) Nigbor; five grandchildren, Dustin Brasch, Anthony Brasch, Christopher (Erin) Nigbor, Scott (Erin) Nigbor and Kelsey (Mitchel) Pincus; 8 great grandchildren, Benjamin, Grace, Amelia, Keegan, Brooks, Jace, Dane and Clay; his sister Daisy Mathias; and many other relatives and friends whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.
The family extend their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at the Aspen at Cedar Community and Common Heart Hospice nurses, whose love, care and compassion will never be forgotten.
Leon’s life was a great example in how to live well – with humor, generosity, determination and an open heart. He showed us that the magic isn’t just in pulling quarters from ears but in the connections we make and the love we share along the way.
A private life celebration was held. Burial took place at Cedar Community Memorial Garden. Visits to Joan by family and friends will be appreciated.
Myrhum-Patten Funeral & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Leon’s arrangements. Additional information and guest book can be found at www.myrhum-patten.com
