Obituary

LaVern Viola Gubin (formerly Schrab / nee Rosin), age 94 years, of Mayville was called home to be with the Lord on October 6, 2026, at the Waupun Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

LaVern was born on August 23, 1932, and was raised by her grandma, Minnie Hartwig. She was united in marriage to Harnold Schrab on February 23, 1952, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mayville. Harnold passed away in 1981. LaVern was united in marriage to Donald J. Gubin, Sr. on June 10, 2006, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mayville. Donald passed away in 2021.

Mom/Grandma will always be remembered for her love of family. She spoke openly how proud she was of fostering a close-knit family through thick and thin. She has a passion for passing along traditions in baking and canning. The smell of her homemade goodies was comforting to all. Playing bingo and slot machines was something she looked forward to. Win, lose or draw she could not wait to return for more. Christmas held a special place in her heart because it meant her whole family would be in one place to gather and celebrate. She looked forward to shaking dice and handing out directions to all. The Christmas holiday brought out her love for decorating. She looked forward to putting up all her Christmas treasures.

The family will miss her honest and loving character along with her feisty attitude.

Those LaVern leaves behind to cherish her memory include her seven children, daughter, Connie (Larry) Budahn, and their children, Lisa (Tom), Carrie (Ron), Jeremy (Jess), and great-grandchildren, Tyler (Nina), Hallie, Layla, and Sophie; daughter, Diane (Jim) Retzlaff, and their children, Jason and Travis, and great-grandchildren, Lelaina, Raistlin, and Javis; son, Terry (Allyson) Schrab, and their children, Kristina (Brian) and Kelly (Pat), and great-grandchildren, Braelen, Brenna, and Kora; daughter, Cheryl (Don Jr. “Guy”) Gourlie, and their children, Ryan (Mike) and Kendall (Jeremy), and great-grandchildren, Teagen and Tanner; daughter, Gail (Terry “Frankie”) Moehr, and their children, Casey (Kevin), Joe (Alicia), and Dylan; and great-grandchildren, Michaela and MaKenna; daughter, Karen (Brian) Gassner, and their children, Bryce and Brent (Emily), and son, Jeff (Suzie) Schrab, and their children, Tabbitha (Alan) and Brody (Deidra), and great-grandchildren, Ethan, Anthony, and Isabella.

In-laws, Dave (June) Gubin, Dennis (Delores) Gubin, Mary Braun, Sandee (Mike) Becker, Ron (Carol) Gubin, Dan (Wendy) Gubin, and Kathy (Brian) Tebedo. She is further survived by Don’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to her parents, LaVern was preceded in death by her husbands, Harnold and Donald; stepson, Donald Jr; as well as all of her siblings and all of the Schrab in-laws.
