Joan May Brasch was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 24, 1930 in Weyauwega to the late Anton and Bernice (Moeller) Bratz, Joan was raised with strong faith and a caring heart. On April 27, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Leon Brasch. Together they shared more than 74 years of marriage before Leon’s passing in June 2025.
For 60 years, Leon and Joan worked side by side as proud owners of the Piggly Wiggly in Lomira. They took great pride in serving their community, cherishing the friendships made through their store and beyond.
Joan’s faith was central to her life. A devoted member of the Methodist Church in Lomira, she played in the church bell choir, volunteered regularly, and lived out her faith through kindness and service. She and Leon also opened their home to international exchange visitors who became lifelong friends and family.
Joan and Leon loved to travel and play cards with friends. Whether exploring new places or enjoying time at home, Joan’s greatest joy was always the people around her. Above all, Joan loved being with her children and grandchildren. She was present for every milestone, always offering encouragement, laughter and love. Her life was a beautiful example of how to live faithfully-with gratitude, generosity, and grace.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Gregory (Lavonne) Brasch and Phyllis (David) Nigbor; five grandchildren, Dustin Brasch, Anthony Brasch, Christopher (Erin) Nigbor, Scott (Erin) Nigbor and Kelsey (Mitchel) Pincus; 8 great grandchildren, Benjamin, Grace, Amelia, Keegan, Brooks, Jace, Dane and Clay; brother David Bratz; and many other relatives and friends whose lives she touched.
In addition to her parents Joan was preceded in death by her husband Leon.
The family extend their heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at The Aspen at Cedar Community and Common Heart Hospice nurses, whose love, care and compassion will never be forgotten.
A private life celebration was held with burial at Cedar Community Memorial Garden.
Joan is now reunited with Leon and at peace in the presence of her Lord.
