Jo Ann Swanke, 88, of West Bend, formerly of Port Washington, passed away peacefully at her home with her daughter by her side on April 24, 2025.
Beloved wife for 65 years with her husband, Floyd, who preceded her in death in July 2024. Loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt. She was born in Zanesville, Ohio on November 26, 1936, to the late Raymond and Gladys (nee Riley) Tyson. Upon her high school graduation in Newark, Ohio, Jo Ann attended the White Cross School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse.
Jo Ann was united in marriage to her true love, Floyd Swanke on September 20, 1958, in a double wedding ceremony with her sister, Jacqueline Tyson Hood and Richard Hood.
She was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Port Washington.
Jo Ann’s passions in life besides her family and friends were gardening, quilting, and playing cards. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center in West Bend where she met and cherished her close friends. She also enjoyed playing Bingo. For several years Jo Ann and Floyed enjoyed their winter home in Pharr, Texas.
Jo Ann was a dedicated and loving wife and mother who would do anything for her family and friends.
Those Jo Ann leaves behind to cherish her memory include her daughter, Michele Allmann; son, Michael (Lisa) Swanke; grandchildren, Megan Anderson, Nathan (Taylor) Swanke, and Elizabeth Swanke; great-grandchildren, Alexia, Adym, and Sage; and sister, Jacqueline Hood. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and special neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; parents, Raymond and Gladys Tyson; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Wisconsin Memorial Park, 13225 W. Capitol Drive, Brookfield, WI 53005. Meet at the Green Parking Area.
