Town of Trenton

Jerome A. Mueller, 85, of the town of Trenton, passed away on January 28, 2026, at his home, with his family at his side.

Jerome entered the world on January 20, 1941, in West Bend, born to the late Roman and Frances (nee Eisenmann) Mueller. On September 21, 1963, he married the love of his life, Barbara Butz, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Barton, a partnership that would anchor his life for decades to come.

Farming wasn’t just Jerome’s livelihood; it was the rhythm of his days and the backdrop of his happiest moments. Even after passing the farm on to his son, he never truly stepped away from the fields. His greatest joy was climbing onto a tractor, especially “Nellie Bell,” the beloved machine he and his brother built with their own hands.

For many years, his loyal New Finland rescue dog, Snoopy, was never far from his side. Jerome had a mischievous streak too, his practical jokes were legendary among family and neighbors alike. He carried a deep appreciation for history, often exploring historical sites and collecting antiques that sparked his curiosity.

One of his proudest traditions was “Plow Day.” What began as a simple family activity, turning the soil with antique tractors, grew into a community event. Neighbors would roll in with their own vintage tractors and plows, joining Jerome in a celebration of hard work, heritage, and the joy of being together.

Those Jerome leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Barbara; four children, Jennifer Suda (Bob Kropp), Daniel (Janet) Mueller, Janet (Jim) Hathaway, and Jeff (Kym) Mueller; seven grandchildren, Cindy Lovato, Jacob Mueller, Bryanna Hathaway (Thomas Lyneis), Jaime (Alex) Riedel, David (Katie) Hathaway, Caleb Suda, and Eric Suda; four great-grandsons, Isaiah, Hayden, Liam, and Brooks, with another great-grandson on the way; a sister, Mary Ann Paulus; other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jerome was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Paul Suda; his siblings, Virginia (Leonard) VanBeek, Richard (Hildegard) Mueller, and James (Phyllis) Mueller; his brothers-in-law, Herman Paulus and Ted Butz; his parents-in-law, Edward and Fern Butz.
