Every family has a center, the person who keeps everyone connected, remembers every birthday, cheers the loudest from the bleachers, and makes holidays feel like home. For our family, that person was our mom, Janet Rose. Mom passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on July 2nd, 2026 at the age of 90.
She was born on September 4, 1935, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to Henry and Margaret (Hannes) Schuff. She grew up surrounded by family and carried that deep sense of responsibility and love throughout her entire life. As one of the older siblings, she helped raise her younger sisters, Sandy, Karen, and Judy, a role she was always proud of and one that reflected the caring heart she had from an early age.
On November 13, 1954, she married our dad, Arlyn Rose. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and making memories. They shared more than 62 years of marriage before Dad's passing in 2017, and their love remains one of the greatest gifts they gave our family.
Mom's faith was the foundation of her life. As a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lomira since 1960, she found strength, comfort, and purpose in her relationship with God.
Many people knew Mom through her years as Head Cook for the Lomira School District. She loved feeding the students and took tremendous pride in making those meals from scratch. She believed good food brought people together, and whether she was serving hundreds of students or hosting family around her own table, she always wanted everyone to leave full and happy.
If there is one thing everyone should know about Mom, it's this: her family was her world.
She loved nothing more than having all of us together. Holidays were never just holidays, they were events. She poured her heart into every gathering, making sure there was plenty of food, plenty of conversation, and room for everyone around the table.
Some of our favorite memories are the traditions she created. New Year's Eve weekends spent at a hotel. Neighborhood trick-or-treating adventures with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Summer trips to Noah's Ark. The smell of her famous Apple Squares cooling on the counter.
Mom and Dad loved traveling with friends during retirement and created wonderful memories in places like Aruba, Alaska, and Branson. But no matter where she went, her favorite place was wherever her family happened to be.
And if one of her grandchildren was playing a sport, performing in a concert, or participating in an event, you could count on finding her there. She was their loudest supporter and sometimes the officials' toughest critic. She never hesitated to let a referee know about a missed call. Afterward, she was always waiting with a smile, a hug, and their favorite treat, as her signature "Good job."
Mom was also a devoted Milwaukee Brewers fan. She rarely missed a game and proudly declared Corey Hart her all-time favorite player.
While we will miss her deeply, we know her legacy lives on in the generations she helped build and nurture. We see her in every family gathering, every recipe passed down, every grandchild she encouraged, and every tradition she created.
She leaves behind her children, Denise (Ron) Rusch, Dale (Holly) Rose, and Debbie (John) Zedler; her grandchildren, Barry (Bethany) Rusch, Laura (fiancé John Lancor) Rusch, Matt (Erin) Zedler, Tim (Lisa) Zedler, Nicole (Ryan) Jackson, Katie (Chris) Pickhardt, and Kristin (Eric) Stortz; 18 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Karen Davey and Judy Pechman, brothers and sisters-in-law, Morris Rose, Jacque (Mary) Rose, John Schmidt, and Darline Schuff along with many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlyn Rose; her parents, Henry and Margaret Schuff; her mother and father-in-law, Ervin & Vera (Garb) Rose, her siblings Richard Schuff, LeRoy Schuff, Sandra Blank, and infant Virginia Schuff; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron Davey, Bob Pechman, Elanor Schuff, Gloria Schuff, Barbara Rose, and Linda Schmidt; and many other family members she loved dearly.
As we say goodbye, we find comfort knowing that Mom's greatest wish was never to be remembered for what she had, but for the people she loved. If you were lucky enough to know her, then you were lucky enough to be loved by her.
And that love will remain with us forever.
We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating our mom’s beautiful life on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 1:00pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 558 S Water St. in Lomira.
We will greet relatives and friends at the church on Monday from 11:00am until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Meadows, SSM Hospital, and SSM Hospice Home of Hope for their grace and compassion throughout her final days.
