Jan Peter Dengel, age 83 years, of West Bend was called home to be with the Lord on November 26, 2025, at Kathy Hospice in West Bend surrounded by his loving family.
Jan was born on June 28, 1942, in West Bend to Howard and Marie Dengel (Rinn). He remained a lifelong resident of West Bend. Jan graduated from Holy Angels Grade School and West Bend High School.
Upon graduation from high school, Jan enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, with his technical schooling at Kessler Air Force Base in Mississippi and National Security Agency at Fort Meade in Maryland. Jan served overseas on a security base as a morse code radio operator for 18 months. He returned home to serve in Air Operations HQ Command at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. Jan was honorably discharged on November 7, 1964. He was a member of the American Legion Post #36 and proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project.
Jan began his career at Amity Leather Productions on November 11, 1964. He started in the shipping department and went on to be the mailroom supervisor. Later, he worked in the time study department, industrial engineering department, and retired after 32-years of service at Amity as manager of the industrial engineering department.
Jan met Caryl Jean Haug while working at Amity, and the couple was united in marriage on June 17, 1967, at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church in Barton.
Jan's hobbies included listening to his ‘60s and ‘70s record collection, collecting sports cards, getting autographs on sports memorabilia, and fishing with family, friends, and neighbors. Most of all he enjoyed vacations in Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and other places with Caryl, especially during their retirement years.
Those Jan leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 58 years, Caryl; two sons, Jason Dengel and Michael (Sarah) Dengel; two grandchildren, Owen and Olivia. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jan was preceded in death by his sister, Roseann, and brother, Donald.
VISITATION: Jan’s family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, December 1, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 138 8th Avenue, West Bend, WI 53095.
SERVICE: A Mass of Christian Burial in remembrance of Jan will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Church with Father Russ Arnett officiating. A private inurnment will be at Washington County Memorial Park at a later date.
