Herbert M. "Herbie" Justman

September 12, 1941 — June 5, 2025

West Bend

Herbert Milton “Herbie” Justman, 83, of West Bend, passed away on June 5, 2025, at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.

Herbie Justman entered the world on September 12, 1941, in Kohlsville, born to Herbert L. and Lucille (nee Kedinger) Justman. A proud graduate of Kewaskum High School, he wasted no time stepping into service, joining the U.S. Army on April 1, 1964, and serving until February 22, 1966, during the Vietnam War. His dedication extended beyond the military, as he devoted 43 years to Regal Ware.

On June 8, 2013, Herbie found his perfect match in Darlene Mandick, and together they exchanged vows at Zion Lutheran Church in Kohlsville. The couple shared a love for adventure, frequenting Wisconsin Dells, delighted by in Tommy Bartlett shows, and cruising through the Duck tours. But their simplest joys came in quiet moments, like sitting by the port in Port Washington, savoring lunch while watching boats glide in and out.

Deeply connected to his German heritage, Herbie never missed Germanfest, embracing the traditions and festivities wholeheartedly including polka dancing. A natural-born jokester with an infectious sense of humor, he had a special fondness for history, especially wartime stories and films. This led to many lighthearted TV show battles between his beloved war documentaries and his wife's cooking programs.

Generous to a fault and always ready to share, Herbie earned a reputation for gifting treasured items to friends and feeding the neighborhood squirrels—so much so that he became affectionately known as "Herbie Nuts." But above all else, his heart belonged to his grandchildren, who remained the greatest joy of his life.

Those Herbie leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Darlene; a son, Herbert Justman Jr.; a daughter, Becki May (Steven Trochinski); his grandsons, Michael and Xander Trochinski; his granddaughters, Leeah, Lynnsey, and Lacee Justman; a brother, Hiram (Alleen “Butch”) Justman; his brother and sisters-in-law, Barbara Justman, Rita Justman, Loretta Justman, Don Mandick, and Christine Coats; nieces and nephews, other relatives, friends, and his beloved cat, Sasha.

In addition to his parents, Herbie was preceded in death by his siblings, Harvey Justman, Harold (Arlene) Justman, Herbert P. Justman, Hilary (Mildred) Justman, Hilbert Justman, Harry Justman, Howard (Judy) Justman, Laura Justman, Lilly (Harold) Westerman, Henry Justman, Homer Justman, Herman Justman; a sisters-in-law, Pauline Vandenberg; his parents-in-law, Patricia and Donald Mandick.
