Gayla Jane Maas (nee Herriges), age 68, was called home to be with the Lord while surrounded by the love of her family on July 19, 2026.

Gayla was born in West Bend, WI to Donald and Joyce Herriges (nee Butt), on January 8th, 1958.

Gayla graduated from Kewaskum High School in 1976 where she was a cheerleader, ran track, played softball, played flute, piccolo and alto saxophone with the concert band, marching band and jazz band. This is also where she met Dale Maas, the love of her life. They were united in marriage on March 5, 1977, at St. John Lutheran Church, New Fane, WI.

In 1979, Gayla and Dale welcomed their daughter, Heather, and in 1981, their son Andrew.

She worked many years for Amity Leather, enjoyed a short stint at Sysco Foods and loved connecting with people through Primerica as a Senior Representative.

Gayla found great joy in the simple pleasures, playing cards, dice or games with family and cheering for the Packers. Countless memories were made on or around Shawano Lake over the years, especially fishing, boating and swimming at the B.A.B. She enjoyed taking family trips around the country, but also camping and fishing in northern Wisconsin. She cherished days at the “farm” in City Point with family and friends.

Gayla enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing handbells and ushering for many years.

Gayla’s kindness, gentle heart and genuine spirit will be missed tremendously by extended family and friends.

Gayla is survived by her loving husband, Dale Maas; her daughter, Heather (Brad) Oelhafen; her son, Andrew (Rachel) Maas; and her cherished grandchildren, James Maas, Matthew Oelhafen, Jayson Maas, Zachary Oelhafen, Joel Maas, and Jakob Maas. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, James (Mary Pierce) Herriges, Thomas (Lisa) Herriges, and Lynelle (Martin) Morse; her siblings-in-law, Edgar (Darlene) Maas, Dianne Maas, Roger (Joan) Maas, Jerry Bauer, Larry (Carol) Maas, Clarence (Linda) Maas, David (Sharon) Maas, Ron (Barbara) Wolter. In addition, she leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins whom she adored, and her grand-dogs, Max and Cash.

Gayla was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Joyce (nee Butt) Herriges; her sister, Janine Alvarez; her parents-in-law, Herbert and Hilda (nee Wolter) Maas; and her siblings-in-law, Ernest (Marion) Maas, Marcella Bauer, Eugene Maas, Lyle Maas and Dolly Maas.

Visitation will be Monday, July 27th, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in New Fane from 1-3 pm with the funeral service and burial to follow. (N683 County Rd S, Kewaskum, WI 53040)
