Ed was born and raised in Chicago, along with his two sisters, and during his sophomore year in high school, his father’s job transferred the family to Milwaukee. In 1953, he graduated from Rufus King High School and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
His dreams began to become reality when he worked out with the Milwaukee Braves and played semi-pro baseball throughout Wisconsin. Eventually, he signed a contract with the Kansas City A’s and was assigned to their farm team in Seminole, Oklahoma.
Shortly after, the Korean War began, and Ed was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1955. He was assigned to go to Korea, but at the last minute was sent to Detroit to work in criminal investigation instead.
Ed met his future wife Nancy and married on September 22, 1955. He worked at Cutler Hammer, now Eaton Corp, Pressed Steal, and then purchased his own company, Wrought Washing Mfg. After 15 years of service, he sold the company. He bought a horse farm with Nancy in Campbellsport, where they raised and showed world champion quarter horses.
In their later years, they moved to West Bend. He lost his beloved Nancy in 2021 after 64 years of marriage, and Ed later moved to the Cedar Community in West Bend.
If you would like to make a donation, some of Ed’s favorite charities are: St. Jude’s Hospital, Tunnels to Towers, Wounded Warriors, the Humane Society, Shriners, planting of a tree in his memory, or anything for Veterans. He will be missed by so many. Rest in peace “Mr. Ed.”
