Obituary

Donald B. Schultz “Bear”, age 82 years, of West Bend was called home to be with the Lord on July 15, 2026, at Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Don was born on June 8, 1944, in Port Washington to Ken and Caroline Schultz (Opsahl). He was united in marriage to Mary Gawrisch on November 10, 1973, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Thiensville.

Don attended Calvary Lutheran Grade School in Thiensville and graduated from Homestead High School (Class of 1963) where he played football and wrestled. He was a member of the Thiensville Fire Department where he was one of the founding members of the rescue squad and EMT program. Don was also part of Sons of the American Legion Howard J Schroeder Post 457 Thiensville-Mequon. In his leisure time, Don enjoyed playing cards and board games with his family.

Those Don leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Mary; daughters, Marna (Robert) Kurbat and Cindy (Joe) Ciszewski; sister, Ellen (Rodney) Newlin; brother, Gordon (Chris) Schultz; and sister-in-law, Jane (Dave) Dolata. He is further survived by his uncle, Erhardt Opsahl; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his brother, David Schultz; nephew, Michael Schultz; and brother-in-law, Fred (Linda) Gawrisch.

VISITATION: Don’s family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 777 S Indiana Ave, West Bend, WI 53095.

SERVICE: A Funeral Service in remembrance of Don will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. A private family entombment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield.

Memorials in Don’s name can be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in West Bend.
