Obituary

Donald Clem Kurer, age 99, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at Kathy Hospice on Friday, June 19, 2026. He was born October 5, 1926 to the late John and Viola (nee Japp) Kurer in West Allis, Wisconsin. He married the love of his life, Dorothy (nee McCulloch) on February 4, 1950.

Don enjoyed childhood with his siblings. On their farm he developed a love for horses, the outdoors, and farming. In High School he was on the Varsity wrestling team for 4 years and nicknamed “Baby Face Kurer”. He graduated from West Milwaukee High School in 1944.

Don served in WWII from 1944-1946 in the 11th Airborne Division in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as an Army paratrooper. He was practicing jumping in the Philippines and Corregedor for the invasion of Japan when the war ended. He became a part of the Occupation of Japan. He was the oldest member of the Allenton Legion, and went on the Honor Flight in 2016 with his Grandson, Noah.

Don got his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy & Soils at the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1952. He enjoyed Wisconsin Badger football games! He worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service, becoming a District Conservationist in Washington County. He knew most of the farmers and helped them lay strip cropping, waterways and assisted with conservation practices.

When his sons were little he was a Baseball coach and Cub Scout leader. He was a member of NARFE, Gideon's International, a Trustee at the West Bend Cemetery Association for 37 years, and charter member of Community Church.

On their land in the Town of Wayne he worked hard and enjoyed planting trees and mowing, gardening, and riding his tractor. He hunted, fished and swam in the pond with his family. He provided fun hayrides! They built their retirement home in 1984 that overlooked their wildlife pond and land, spotting many wildlife daily.

They loved to camp and travel in the US and abroad with family and friends..

Don’s relationship with Christ was important to him. He trusted in the Lord and was always eager to learn, grow and share his faith. He always carried a pocket full of tracts and Bibles. He never met a stranger!

Don is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and four children; David (Peggy), Cameron (Carol), Gary (Judy) and Sharon (Sean) Murphy. He has 11 surviving Grandchildren; Corey, Jed, Andrew, Sarah, Amanda, Katie, Kristin, Noah, Isaac, Peter, Tiana and 15 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law Evalyn Kurer, and brothers-in-law Warren McCulloch and John (Pam) McCulloch. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death was a granddaughter, Julissa Murphy, brothers Clarence (Esther), Vic (Freda), John (Arlene), Bill, sister June (Sidney) Arthur, his sister-in-law Mae McCulloch, and 8 nieces and nephews.

Don’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at the Willows at Cedar Lake, staff at Froedtert, and Kathy Hospice, whose loving and compassionate care they provided to Dad in the last 5 days of his life.
