Danielle M. Rasmussen (nee Hug), age 42 years, of West Bend, passed away after a courageous 6-year battle with breast cancer on May 6, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. Danielle’s legacy is one of strength, compassion, and resilience. Her indomitable spirit and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Danielle was born on January 30, 1983, in Menomonee Falls to Daniel Hug and Susan Hug-Kuester. She was united in marriage to Mark A. Rasmussen, Jr. on September 25, 2010.
Danielle graduated from West Bend West High School in 2001. She attended University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and earned her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. Danielle continued her education at Moraine Park Technical College and earned her degree in Nursing.
Danielle worked at St. Mary’s Ozaukee and then assisted in the opening of the Cardiac Rehab Department at Aurora Grafton Medical Center and worked there until April 2023. Her commitment to caring for others was unwavering and she touched countless lives with her expertise and gentle spirit.
Danielle was an avid runner since high school where she was captain of the Cross Country Team. She went on to run numerous marathons, and proudly qualified for and ran in the Boston Marathon in 2010. Danielle liked designing and taking care of the landscaping at her home.
Danielle’s great joy was her family, those she leaves behind to cherish her memory include her husband, Mark; her daughter, Mikaela; father, Daniel (Nola) Hug; mother, Susan (Joel) Hug-Kuester; siblings, Jason Hug and Alissa Kuester; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mark (Tracy) Rasmussen, Sr; brother-in-law, Dan (Steph) Rasmussen; and sister-in-law, Sydney Rasmussen.
She is further survived by her grandfather, James Stanchik; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a wide circle of friends who will remember her with love and admiration.
Danielle was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dan Malchow, Rita Stanchik, and Bill (Caroline) Hug.
A private family celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
