Our hearts are extremely broken due to the loss of “Andy” Andrew James Schut on January 2, 2026, who passed away unexpectedly.
He was born on March 16, 1981, to Allen and Louise Ann (Link) Schut in West Bend, Wisconsin. Andrew was baptized at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. He attended St. John’s Lutheran School, St. John’s Military Academy and West Bend East High School graduating in 1999.
Andy loved sports. He started ice skating at the age of five; he played hockey for Washington County Youth Hockey Association, the Madison Capitals a AAA team and Petit Nationals a AAA team from Milwaukee. He also played for the West Bend Bombers in 2008.
He joined the Army and proudly served with the Tenth Mountain Division in Afghanistan in 2004. After he was discharged in 2008, he joined the Wisconsin Army Reserve and later served in Iraq in 2009. He was discharged from the Wisconsin Army National Guard in 2011.
Andy loved to go frog catching and fishing with his nephew, Vann.
Those left behind to miss him are his daughter, Hailey Hasenberg (Mike); his parents, Allen and Louise Schut (Link); siblings, Lindy Wiedmeyer and John (Ginny) Schut; nephews and nieces, Mason (Kayla) Ksioszk, Jillian (Nik) Davis, Vann Wiedmeyer, Emmalie Wiedmeyer, and Henry Schut; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his friends and brothers-in-arms of Task Force “Chosin”, and 1St Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Spartans). Their shared courage, sacrifice, and loyalty forged lifelong bonds that will never be forgotten.

Also preceded in death by Major Doug Sloan, his commanding officer and best friend
In lieu of flowers, donations came be made to the Fischer house in Milwaukee (similar to the Ronald McDonald house, but for veterans’ families).
