IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfred "Al"
Ackerman
February 22, 1938 – March 21, 2026
Alfred J. Ackerman “Al”, 88, of West Bend passed away peacefully at his home on March 21, 2026.
Al was born on February 22, 1938 in Waterloo, Iowa to the late Alfred and Lucile Ackerman (nee Tracy). He graduated from East High School in Waterloo, Iowa in 1956. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. Al was united in marriage to Karen A. Moran on June 16, 1956. Al built a long career as a lineman with Wisconsin Electric Power Company, where he was known for his reliability, grit, and the pride he took in his work.
Al had a strong presence and steady way about him. His values and expectations were clear, and he lived them every day. He carried a quiet strength that defined how he showed up in the world. A gentleman with a big heart, he showed care more through action than words.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and passed that on to those around him. Whether fishing at his cabin on the Rainbow Reservoir or chasing salmon in Port Washington, he found joy in teaching others the nuances of the craft. Those moments- early mornings, quiet water, shared time- are part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Al also loved working with his hands. He spent countless hours in his shop “Old Guys Fishing Stuff & Sinkers”, tinkering, building, and creating. He had an inventive mind and an entrepreneurial spirit ahead of his time.
Life wasn’t without its challenges, but through it all, his love for his family- especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren- was clear.
He is survived by his children, Leslie Bieri, Jean Ackerman, Beverly (Ron) Sawyer, and Mark Ackerman; his grandchildren, Craig and Mike Bieri, Brian (Kim) and Eric Chilson, Leanne Bartelt, Kaysee Ackerman, Peter (Kali) Sawyer, Jill Sawyer, and Dustin Ackerman; several great-grandchildren and his sister, Elcina Buck.
In addition to his parents, Al is preceded in death by his wife, Karen in 2023.
He lived a life defined by hard work, independence, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Per Al’s wishes there will be no services held.
Honor Al by spending time outdoors… and “GO FISHING”.
