Mr. Ammel was my senior class homeroom teacher in 1975. I always enjoyed talking to him about music. Also, when I was in Kiwanis I came to several of the Kewaskum meetings and we would discuss issues involving the Turkey Shoot. He will be missed in Kewaskum and at the high school fine arts events that he was still involved in. My hope is that someone will try to fill his shoes ( even though I know that they won't be able to ever be completely full) in this area of theater and music. RIP Larry Monica Bohn

Ammel family, I am so sorry for your sorrowful loss. My friendship with Larry is through our love of books and reading. We would discuss plots and authors along with our next selections , whenever we would meet. I am going to miss him greatly. But his input on the Kewaskum schools and everyone he smiled upon will be the greatest. If we could all do just one good thing in Larry's name, he could keep smiling and ,wow, what a difference it would make. K

Larry, you made me happier when I was in your presence. Blending the best of your mom and dad, you projected strength, offered wisdom, extended warmth, inspired music, and shared humor. I enjoyed you always, and look forward to our paths crossing in the next adventure. For your family, I wish only memories of the love and light that you held for them, and that they gave to you. I love you always, cousin.

Dear Cheryl,
You were blessed by God with a life married to Larry. How comforting it is to know that Larry believed in God as his Lord and Savior and is safe with Him in Heaven! And how wonderful to know that we will all join him someday in that blessed place.

Dear Family Ammel...I cannot fathom what you are all feeling, and I can only imagine the outpouring from folks like me and the community. Like all of his students, I felt that I had a special and closer relationship with him than with any other educator/mentor in my life. He literally shoved me toward successes...he went to Chicago WITH my Dad and I to audition for college. Here's what I wrote on my Facebook page and I hope you don't mind the cut and paste...as I re read, it's just what I think...Sending love and peace to your entire family!

"Last night, the most influential educator and mentor in my entire life passed away of a heart attack. May your soul, Larry Ammel, blanket the world with love and compassion. Back in those days, I was a mess...I was sort of tossed around between family members...none of who really wanted me around, and I arrived to school early...really early, every morning. There was Mr. Ammel, having a coffee and a cigarette, sitting in his office, ready to give me life lesson after life lesson. I worked with him for four years...intensely. He mentored me in music, on trumpet and in life...as I sit here in New Zealand, on a beautiful fall morning with tears in my eyes, I can only remember Mr. Ammel, understanding and caring deeply about me and how I would get through the days. It worked, I am now very successful and have enjoyed a lifetime of trying to be to many of my 'kids' what he was to me. I hope and pray that I get just one who feels this way. To the family of SAINT LARRY, I wish you peace, resolve and more sympathy than you can ever imagine...you know, the best thing is that I know there are THOUSANDS of Kewaskum High School Band kids who feel EXACTLY the same way I do. Mr. Ammel, for my lifetime, I will strive to do for students, what you did for me. You were nobility and I cherish my experiences with you in your high school band room! Love and sympathy...ANDY"

Deepest sympathy to Cheryl and family on Larry's passing. I'm sure he was most prepared to meet the Lord on Easter Sunday. Though I have not been in close touch with you over the years, what I am reading and hearing now about Larry, as a music teacher and his relationship with his students, is what I would have expected from him. He was always a most friendly, jovial and happy guy who was made for teaching music. A most special member of the teaching profession who was well loved and respected by his students. I know your loss and that felt in the community is very great. May smiles and loving memories replace your tears. And may God bless Larry and all of you.

One of the most loving, warm, compassionate men I have ever known. I met Mr. Ammel on my first day at KHS. I was the 'new girl from Shorewood', and it was a rough transition. He came up to me at the lunch table and told me he would be my friend until I met some of my own. Needless to say, he became a friend forever. The love and respect he had from his students was unbeatable. When I joined Peace Church, I was thrilled to find out he was not only a member but the long time choir director. What a beautiful and kind gentleman. I am so blessed to have known him for so many years. Dear Cheryl and family...thank you for sharing this incredible man with so many of us. I pray that you all may find peace during this difficult, very sad time. My family and I are praying for all of you. With so much sympathy and love...Liz Jankowski

Mr. Ammel was my favorite teacher. He was always friendly, caring, and supportive. He had an awesome sense of humor. I will never forget the story he told on my 18th birthday. He basically told everyone that I was able to buy alcohol during the story. Mr. Ammel wasn't just a teacher but a friend. I am truly going to miss him. He never did make it to any of the rock parties we continually invited him to. Now he and my dad can have the rock parties together in heaven. My sincerest sympathy to the family he leaves behind. He was a very special man. I love you Mr. Ammel.
