Elizabeth Heermans Obituary

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Heermans (Hobson), age 90, of West Bend, was called home to be with our lord and savior on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 while at New Perspectives Assisted Living in West Bend.

Betty was born on August 4, 1928 in Milwaukee to Aubrey and Lucille (nee Gross) Hobson.  Lucille passed away when Betty was 3 years old.  Aubrey then married Marie (nee Voss).  Marie raised Betty as her own.

Following her high school graduation, Betty attended UW-M where she met the love of her life, Thomas Willison Heermans.  They were married June 24, 1950 in Milwaukee.  She took pride in her many years as a homemaker, later she worked as a teacher’s aide for the West Bend School District for 25 years.  Betty developed many special bonds with the children she worked with.  Upon retirement, she volunteered to drive cancer patients to and from their treatments.

Betty was a raised as a Lutheran and then confirmed Episcopalian after her marriage to Tom. She was an active member at St. James Episcopal Church in West Bend for over 40 years.  She enjoyed traveling all over the world with her husband. They also loved trips Up-North and spending winters in Florida.  She loved Big Band Music, Frank Sinatra, and a good Martini.  Betty was very social and had many friends; she especially loved playing Bridge and hosting many dinner parties.  She took great pride in setting the perfect table.  Later in life, she became an avid sports fan.  However, nothing was more important to her than her family.  She cherished spending time with her grandchildren; playing Gin rummy, reading, and chauffeuring.

Those Betty leaves behind to remember her include her five children, Jill (Jeff) Anderson of Meridian, ID, Tom (Chris) Heermans of Flower Mound, TX, Jody (Bill) Kraemer of West Bend,  WI, Joy (Josif) Wittnik of Appleton, WI, and Jan (Roger) Grosz of West Bend, WI; 13 grandchildren, Sara, Trisha, Matthew, Stefanie, Jerrod, Andrew, Erik, Kristin, Joelle, Kaley, Keyan, Jordan, and Jalynn; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy Wellman; and many other close relatives and dear friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Aubrey, Lucille and Marie; and her husband, Thomas Heermans.

A Memorial Mass in remembrance of Betty will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at St. James Episcopal Church (148 S. 8th Ave. West Bend, WI 53095).  Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 1:00 pm until the time of Mass at 3:00 pm.  Burial of Betty’s cremated remains will take place at the St. James Columbarium.

Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or to St. James Episcopal Church would be greatly appreciated by the family.

The family would like thank the staff of Betty’s Harbor at New Perspective and Horizon Home Care & Hospice and extend a special heartfelt thank you to all her caregivers and Mother Mindy Valentine Davis for their love and supportive care.
