Sylvin "Syl" Watry

June 11, 1927 ~ August 13, 2015 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Sylvin “Syl” Watry, 88, of West Bend, passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 65 years at his side on Thursday, August 13, 2015.

He was born on June 11, 1927 in Little Kohler to the late John and Ester (nee Schulz) Watry.  Syl was raised in Ozaukee County and left High School early in his senior year to serve his country in the U.S. Coast Guard.  After returning home, he was united in marriage to Ramona “Mona” Thelen on June 3, 1950 in Fredonia.

Syl was one of the first full-time firefighters hired in West Bend.  He worked for the West Bend Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad for 32 years and during that time he was proud to deliver six babies.  He retired from the Fire Dept. in 1983 and then drove truck for Kreilkamp Trucking for several years.

Syl took great pride in his children and his Luxembourg heritage.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona “Mona”; five children, Linda (Frank) Cisek of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Diane (Mike) Kent of West Bend, Allen (Karen) Watry of the town of  Auburn, John (Liz) Watry of Elm Grove, and Wendy (Tony) Cross of West Bend; a daughter-in-law, Patty Steffek of Townsend; nine grandchildren, Will (Ericka) Watry, Charlie (Chelsea) Watry, Stephanie (Brad) Jensen, Travis (fiancée Tanya Zimmerman) Watry, Kate Watry, Nick Watry, Kelsey Cross, Kendra Cross and Cassie Cross; four great-grandchildren, Orion Watry, Zoe Watry, Izabella Watry, Hadley Jensen and Baby Jensen due in November; two step-granddaughters, Traci and Gina; two step-great-grandchildren, Belen and Evangeline; a sister, Onettia (George) Boyung of Florida; special nieces, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence “Larry” Watry; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Watry; five sisters, Sulvina Behling, Ovila Haseley, Sedonia Williams, Odania Naset and Sylvia Eischen; and a brother, Sylvester Watry.

A funeral service in remembrance of Syl will be held on Monday, August 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington St., West Bend.  Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.  Private entombment with military honors will be at Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Stars and Stripes Honor Flight or the Full Shelf Food Pantry would be appreciated.
