Lowell D. "Dex" Cox

May 26, 1925 ~ July 20, 2015 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Lowell D. “Dex” Cox, age 90, of West Bend, was received into the hands of the Lord on Monday, July 20, 2015 at The Kathy Hospice surrounded by his loving family.

 

He was born on May 26, 1925 in Osseo to the late Brehm and Frankie Cox. Following high school Dex attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison earning a business degree. While he was in college Dex met the love of his life, Marjorie Burdick, while on a dorm blind date exchange. Dex entered the U. S. Army and served honorably in the Pacific Theater during WW II. On November 5, 1949 Lowell and Marjorie were united in marriage at the Methodist Church in Kaukauna. Together they made their home and raised their family in West Bend.  Dex spent 38 years working at West Bend Mutual Insurance Company in the commercial property claims department, retiring in 1989.

 

Dex and Marjorie enjoyed traveling, especially to North Carolina, Switzerland, and Austria. He also enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, spending time at their cottage and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and school concerts. He volunteered at the West Bend Food Pantry, and was thrilled to be part of the Honor Flight in 2011.

 

He was an active and faithful member of the Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church since 1952, member and past president of the West Bend Lion’s Club, West Bend Masonic Lodge # 138 F & AM, and the West Bend Mutual 25 year club.

 

Dex is survived by three children, Barbara (Jerry) Prahl of Newburg, Nancy (Joel) Schoenbeck of West Bend, and Bill (Connie) Cox of Germantown; seven grandchildren, Heather & Ryan Prahl, Jess & Tim Schoenbeck, Ashley, Greg, & Tyler Cox; five great-granddaughters, Courtney Fischer, Destiny Prahl, Brook Prahl, Kylee Prahl, and Bailie Schoenbeck; a brother, Carl (Wilma) Witt of Horseshoe Bend, AR; Other relatives and many friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; along with his wife Marjorie in 2010.

 

Funeral services in remembrance of Dex will be held on Monday, July 27th at 5:00 pm at the Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church (323 S. 5th Ave.) West Bend. Rev. Jeremy Deaner will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Monday From 3:00 pm until 4:45 pm with a Masonic Service at 4:45pm. Burial will be in Washington County Memorial Park on Tuesday at 10:00 am with military honors.
