June R. Spielman (nee Schoengrund), age 98, of West Bend, was called home to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Cedar Lake Health and Rehab, West Bend.

June was born on June 20, 1917 in the town of Westford near Randolph, to the late Paul and Racie (nee Rose) Schoengrund. She attended King’s Corner Rural School, 1933 graduate of Fall River High School, earned her teaching certificate from Columbia normal School, and graduated from Fond du Lac Business College, becoming a certified braille transcriber, public stenographer, and secretary. In her later years June also attend UWWC part time.  

She taught 2 years at rural Sutton School in Columbia County, and then worked in Fond du Lac as a secretary and stenographer.

On June 1, 1941 she was united in marriage to Gerhard C. Spielman at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Doylestown.  After Gerhard returned from military service in WW II they moved to West Bend and joined St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church.

June was an active member of St. John’s Guild for 64 years and Guild president for 20 years, choir member for 50 years, “Our Favorite Recipe’s Cookbook” chairman for 20 years, and volunteer braille transcriber for L.C.M.S. and Mission for the Blind in St. Louis. June was also the author of a published book in 2010 titled “Meddling with Memories”.

Those left behind to cherish June’s memory are her four children, Paul (Sri) Spielman of Colorado Springs, Co., Bethany (Keith Miller) Spielman of Springfield, IL, John (Marie Koehler) Spielman of Maplewood, MN, and Gloria (Jay Cantrell) Spielman of Naperville, IL; six grandchildren, Eric Miller-Spielman, Noah Miller-Spielman, Christa Spielman, Kendra (Antonio) Colon, David Cantrell, and Andrew Cantrell; one sister, Mildred Ballsrud of Charleston, IL; a sister-in-law, Paula Beitz of Brownsville; other relatives and friends.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Racie; husband, Gerhard in 1997; three sisters, Marie Janney, Lauretta Schaefer, and Isabelle Seales; one brother, William Schoengrund; a nephew, Douglas Janney; along with sisters and brothers-in-law.

Funeral services in remembrance of June will be held on Friday November 20th at 1:00 pm at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church (809 S. 6th Ave.) West Bend. Rev. David Kellerman will officiate. 

Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 12:00 (noon) until the time of service.  Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lomira.

Memorials to Living Word High School or St. John’s Lutheran School are appreciated by the family.
